Ashmadi Othman graduated from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 1996 and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 3 May 1997. He completed his pupillage with Messrs Azam Malek & Soh at Lion Tower, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, before commencing practice with Messrs Che Mokhtar & Co (later known as Messrs Che Mokhtar & Ling). Rising swiftly through the ranks, Ashmadi served as a Senior Associate with the firm until February 2016.

On 17 February 2016, Ashmadi Othman joined Messrs Zulpadli & Edham as a Partner, where he now leads the General & Banking Litigation Department. He has since been appointed as a Commissioner for Oaths by the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia and as a Notary Public by the Attorney General’s Chambers, reflecting the confidence placed in him within the Malaysian legal fraternity.

  • Represented Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur (Defendant) in opposing a suit filed by 41 illegal squatters at Ladang Bukit Jalil. The High Court struck out the suit in Veerasingam a/l Subramaniam & Ors v Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur [2012] 8 CLJ 479, later affirmed by the Court of Appeal.
  • Acted for Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur (Respondent) in a judicial review challenging demolition notices issued under the Essential (Clearance of Squatters) Regulations 1969. The High Court dismissed the application in Noor Azman Sahar & Ors v Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur [2011] 5 CLJ 807.
  • Represented Hong Leong Bank Berhad (Plaintiff) in a declaratory suit concerning assignment and contractual issues in Hong Leong Bank Berhad v Villa Genting Development Sdn Bhd [2008] 9 CLJ 330.
  • Acted for Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur (Defendant) in a declaration suit challenging a Development Order under the Federal Territory (Planning) Act 1982 in Kembang Masyur Sdn Bhd v Milik Perusahaan Sdn Bhd & Ors [2005] 6 CLJ 14.
  • Acted for Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur (Petitioner) in winding-up proceedings against a defaulting company for non-payment of assessment notices in Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur v Pembangunan Orkid Desa Sdn Bhd [2001] 4 CLJ 591.
